Lynch is wrong
In The Day of the Jackal (1973), the Jackal also drives a white Alfa Romeo, albeit an earlier model. Quoted in Graham Norton and guests: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). TLDR: Redmayne pulls it off.
All in all, the story is a viable adaptation
Unfortunately, the strings are not level with each other, which weakens the otherwise impressive and high-quality production. There’s no shade for Lynch, it’s just a high bar that Redmayne has set. A more experienced actor could provide a more convincing character of the adversary/adversary needed to challenge the Jackal.
Fraud barometer is always on in the background
The character development kind of works, even if some things are left open only in the main characters’ stories, but that’s to be hoped for. The locations, varied interactions and Redmaynes delivery of language and character changes really add a special layer to the story. I look forward to seeing how Se01 ends and how the quality is maintained or improved in Se02.
If it does, Se02 could hold a lot of promise
Hopefully Lynch will be less forced and give a more nuanced performance to try and get to know Redmayne.
