Line of Events

The Day of the Jackal; The novel is set in 1963 and involves an assassination attempt on then-President of France Charles de Gaulle.

I love what they tried to do

A remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973). How does a killer remain anonymous and untraceable in the modern world of security cameras, camera phones and social media, the internet and facial recognition, surveillance of communications, digital transactions, etc. etc.

There is something to like in every episode

The experience is imperfect, but please name me a show or movie that has succeeded and I will watch it immediately. The central story telling is marred, however, by the inclusion of the M16 agent’s family drama, which feels like filler thrown in to satisfy a formulaic script “principle.” I skip these unnecessary scenes to keep the main storylines moving along. I’m halfway through episode 4 and appreciate the effort and intent.

don’t mention the bullets

Plus, I love the neck scarf, the nod to the original film, and the sniper rifle update – a suspension of disbelief cranked up to 11 that this passes airport X-ray screening, never mind the magical supersonic cartridge suppressor and no one’s ability to smell a recently used firearm 🙂 Shh… Anyway, imperfect, but I’ll watch to the end and appreciate the effort, and watch with interest the choices they made to tell a compelling story. And I’ll watch anything with Charles Dance.
